Be always open to criticism, but never get affected by it

- Rishika Garg (Inner Voice comprises contributions from our readers The views expressed are personal) n innervoice@hindustantimes.com

The act of expressing disapproval or faults on idea, act or opinion is known as criticism. Everybody knows how to criticise but not the art of handling it. It is a very critical thing if not handled carefully. Criticism de-motivates and causes loss of confidence. It may develop a phobia or anger for the people who has been criticised. Criticism, if taken in the right sense, encourages a person to confound the same people by enhancing themselves or their ideas. This will increase their confidence by many folds. It is a practice which makes them mentally strong.

Criticism should be objective and reasonable and not due to personal differences. And we don’t have the right to criticise what we don’t understand. This type of criticism widens the gap between the two.

If we criticise others then we should have heart to help the person and should be ready to handle criticism. The objective of criticism is to better a person or an idea, to make it perfect.

But if we can criticise ourselves then there is no need of others to criticise us. That is, we have to analyse ourselves without bias and accept the truth because we are the best judges of ourselves. Shortcomings come in the form of criticism.

If we introspect and can overcome our weakness then there is no question of criticism. Impartial thinking, an optimistic attitude and a neversay-die attitude are ingredients to fight and avoid criticism. All famous people have faced criticism in their lives and did not allow it to affect them.
