City hospital awarded for serving elderly
A city hospital was awarded by the president of India for being ‘the best institution in the country for providing services to the senior citizens and awareness generation in geriatrics’ on Saturday. Dr Abhishek Shukla of Aastha Geriatric Centre and Hospice was awarded with the ‘Vayoshreshtha Samman-2016’ by President Pranab Mukherjee at a function where individuals and institutions were awarded for their distinguished service towards elderly. The selection was done by the department of social justice and empowerment. The award included citation, memento and `5 lakh.
“The recognition has instilled in me and my entire team a sense of responsibility to do even better. Ageing, geriatrics, old age home, specialised old age hospitals & issues related to old age are my passion and I have been working on these issues for over a decade now, we have been able to establish the existence of geriatrics in the state,” said Dr Shukla.

Special camps were organised on Saturday by dental institutions in association with Indian Prosthodontic Association at KGMU and Saraswati Dental College. Patients at KGMU were examined by dean (dental) Prof AP Tikku and Prof Pooran Chand while at Saraswati Dental College by Prof ArvindTripathi.
