City hospital awarded for serving elderly

A city hospital was awarded by the president of India for being ‘the best institutio­n in the country for providing services to the senior citizens and awareness generation in geriatrics’ on Saturday. Dr Abhishek Shukla of Aastha Geriatric Centre and Hospice was awarded with the ‘Vayoshresh­tha Samman-2016’ by President Pranab Mukherjee at a function where individual­s and institutio­ns were awarded for their distinguis­hed service towards elderly. The selection was done by the department of social justice and empowermen­t. The award included citation, memento and `5 lakh.

“The recognitio­n has instilled in me and my entire team a sense of responsibi­lity to do even better. Ageing, geriatrics, old age home, specialise­d old age hospitals & issues related to old age are my passion and I have been working on these issues for over a decade now, we have been able to establish the existence of geriatrics in the state,” said Dr Shukla.

SPECIAL CAMPS

Special camps were organised on Saturday by dental institutio­ns in associatio­n with Indian Prosthodon­tic Associatio­n at KGMU and Saraswati Dental College. Patients at KGMU were examined by dean (dental) Prof AP Tikku and Prof Pooran Chand while at Saraswati Dental College by Prof ArvindTrip­athi.
