City hospi­tal awarded for serv­ing el­derly

A city hospi­tal was awarded by the pres­i­dent of In­dia for be­ing ‘the best in­sti­tu­tion in the coun­try for pro­vid­ing ser­vices to the se­nior cit­i­zens and aware­ness gen­er­a­tion in geri­atrics’ on Satur­day. Dr Ab­hishek Shukla of Aastha Geri­atric Cen­tre and Hos­pice was awarded with the ‘Vayoshreshtha Sam­man-2016’ by Pres­i­dent Pranab Mukher­jee at a func­tion where in­di­vid­u­als and in­sti­tu­tions were awarded for their dis­tin­guished ser­vice to­wards el­derly. The se­lec­tion was done by the de­part­ment of so­cial jus­tice and em­pow­er­ment. The award in­cluded ci­ta­tion, me­mento and `5 lakh.

“The recog­ni­tion has in­stilled in me and my en­tire team a sense of re­spon­si­bil­ity to do even bet­ter. Age­ing, geri­atrics, old age home, spe­cialised old age hos­pi­tals & is­sues re­lated to old age are my pas­sion and I have been work­ing on these is­sues for over a decade now, we have been able to es­tab­lish the ex­is­tence of geri­atrics in the state,” said Dr Shukla.

SPE­CIAL CAMPS

Spe­cial camps were or­gan­ised on Satur­day by den­tal in­sti­tu­tions in as­so­ci­a­tion with In­dian Prosthodon­tic As­so­ci­a­tion at KGMU and Saraswati Den­tal Col­lege. Pa­tients at KGMU were ex­am­ined by dean (den­tal) Prof AP Tikku and Prof Pooran Chand while at Saraswati Den­tal Col­lege by Prof Arvin­dTri­pathi.
