He has been given the same assembly seat from where his father, Amar Mani, was elected MLA four times.

Amar Mani was convicted in the murder case of poetess Madhumita Shukla, who was found dead in her Lucknow residence in May 2003.

Amar Mani was arrested in September 2003. The DNA of the foetus found in Madumita’s body also matched with Amar Mani. This is the third time when Akhilesh and Shivpal have a disagreement.

Confrontation took place for the first time in the run-up to the 2012 UP election when Shivpal showed an inclination towards DP Yadav. Akhilesh had said that DP Yadav would not find a place in SP.

Recently, Shivpal had merged Mukhtar Ansari’s Quami Ekta Dal (QED) into SP. Akhilesh’s displeasure over the move led to the exit of QED from SP.

The infighting in Yadav famil y turned intense after the QED fiasco. In the feud, SP national president Mulayam Singh Yadav removed Akhilesh as the state president replacing him with Shivpal.

Eventually, Akhilesh conceded the state president’s post to Shivpal but had repeatedly said he wanted a say in distribution and cancellation of tickets.
