Metro work: Reverse clock ticking fast

But officials confident of holding trials on December 1

LUCKNOW: The reverse clock hung on the LMRC (Lucknow Metro Rail Corporatio­n) office premises is moving fast. It shows that there are only 43 days left to complete Lucknow Metro work. Small wonder officials are getting goose bumps to officials as the D-day is fast approachin­g.

Officials claim around 90% work from Transport Nagar to Mawaiya, where the trial run is supposed to take place, is already done. MD LMRC Kumar Keshav is confident that the deadline of December 1 trials would be duly met.

Talking to Hindustan Times, he said, “Important work like overhead electrific­ation, tracks , stations, escalators and lifts are nearing completion. Metro coaches are expected to arrive before November 16, so there is no doubt that the trials would commence on December 1.” Commercial run of the train would also start on March 26 as per schedule. WIRING TO BE ENERGIZED

The overhead wiring on track from Transport Nagar to Charbagh is complete. The substation has started supplying power to the depot and all the tracks would be energized soon. “We will test the supply for 24 hours and then switch it off,” said Kumar Keshav. WORK ON PHASE III STARTS

The work on the section from KD Singh Babu stadium to Munshipuli­a started with bhoomipuja­n in front of HAL crossing on Wednesday.

The central government has released its share of funds on September 20 last month. Now the European Investment Bank is set to release its share of ` 250 crore this months after certain clearances by the centre.

Lucknow Metro has got loan of 450 million Euros (`3,502 cr) approved from European Investment Bank (EIB). The 22.878 km long Lucknow Metro Phase-1A project was approved by the Government of India in December, 2015 at a cost of `6,928 cr on 50 : 50 equity funding by the central and state government­s.

MAWAIYA SPAN Kumar Keshav said that 65 % work on Mawaiya span was completed and the entire work was expected to be completed by mid-December.
