11 FRESH DENGUE CASES IN STATE CAPITAL

-

LUCKNOW: Eleven fresh dengue cases were reported in the state capital on Wednesday, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 653 this season.

Till now over 10,000 cases have been reported across the state, of which 8,479 were reported from the state labs and 2,947 by the chief medical officers of various districts. During the day, two suspected dengue patients, a 75-year-old woman from Narhi and a 50-year-old man were reported to have died.

About 500 suspected dengue patients including a former minister, are presently undergoing treatment in city hospitals, while OPDs have a long queue at each government hospital with cases of high fever. The situation is such that patients can be seen also lying on the ramp inside hospitals.

The beds in the hospitals are full and the medical staff has been asked to perform extra duty so that patients can be taken care of. At the Balrampur hospital that has 756 beds for patients, over 1,000 patients are admitted. Keeping in view the number of dengue/fever cases, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Lucknow branch has started a ‘fever clinic’ at its office in River Bank Colony.

Doctors said this year dengue has affected almost four times the number of people in 2015. They said instead of panicking, people should adopt preventive measures and consult a doctor in case they had fever.

Meanwhile, family members of a female patient had an altercation with the medical staff at Lohia hospital in Gomti Nagar after the woman died on Wednesday evening. The 24-year-old woman had come here and delivered a stillborn child. She died soon afterwards.
