JPC should probe demonetisation: Surjewala
All India Congress Committee (AICC) communications department chairman Randeep Singh Surjewala said here on Friday the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes was the biggest scam in the country that should be probed by a joint parliamentary committee (JPC).
Addressing the media at the UPCC headquarters here, he said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah should make public all accounts of the BJP’s state and national units, RSS and other organisations for the past one year, prior to announcement of demonetisation on November 8. This will expose the scam of converting black money into white with advance knowledge. ”
Surjewala said demonetisation had halted development. “The Prime Minister’s arrogance has plunged the country into economy anarchy,” he said.
People queuing up to withdraw money were not thieves or black money hoarders, he said, adding the Modi government’s move had branded the entire country as criminal. Eighty people had died after demonetisation move and the PM should apologise not only to their families but to the nation. Moreover, the Modi government had changed rules 127 times after demonetisation, he said.
Surjewala said the BJP and a few individuals had advance knowledge of demonetisation, as `3 crore in `500 and `1000 currency notes was deposited in the BJP’s account in a Kolkata bank on the day of the announcement.
