ITBP personnel showcase defence skills at Mahotsav
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel showcased self-defence skills and put together a musical band performance at Lucknow Mahotsav, Smriti Upvan on Saturday. The ITBP personnel also danced and presented a magic show to attract people to their camp at the Mahotsava venue, where they highlighted the glorious history of the force.
“The reason behind setting up the camp at Lucknow Mahotsava was to give ITBP personnel an opportunity for social interaction,” said an officer.
Inspector general, ITBP (east region), Puneet Rastogi was the chief guest at the special performance on Saturday.
“Such an opportunity of social interaction will help ITBP personnel make people aware about its celebrated past, the challenges the personnel face while surviving in extreme conditions, and the sacrifices rendered by them in the service of the nation,” said Naveen Arora, deputy inspector general of ITBP, Lucknow sector headquarter.
“The visitors were all praise for the ITBP personnel’s musical performance. They were also surprised after coming to know about how the personnel survive in hostile conditions,” said Arora.
The DIG said that the ITBP personnel generally spent their service period in mountainous regions along the 3488-km stretch of the Indo-Tibet border. “Continuous stay in extreme cold weather causes health problems. So, it was decided to set up centres in plains too and provide a chance to the personnel to spend time in better climate and revive their training. The Mahotsav camp is for helping our personnel rejuvenate,” said Arora.
ITBP was constituted in 1962 to guard the Indo-Tibet border. Since then, members of the force are known for their combat skills in extreme conditions, and expertise in arms and explosives handling. ITBP also serves the country by performing duties during elections of different states.
