- HT Correspondent

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday that the PCS Association should hold its annual general meeting every year.

Addressing the meet at Lok Bhawan here, Yadav lauded the efforts of PCS officers and recalled how his government always relied on the cadre.

He also referred to a statement by a senior Samajwadi Party leader who had urged the Centre to recall IAS officers (the statement was made when a controversy erupted over the suspension of IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal).

“There was a time when the officers of your cadre occupied many posts of district magistrates,” he said. The CM called upon the PCS officers to speed up work for the development of the state. “It was due to the cooperation of PCS officers that the benefits of the SP government’s welfare schemes have reached the people,” he said.

“If you work harder, the state will develop expeditiously. Due to the cooperation of PCS officers, the Agra-Lucknow Expressway has been completed in a record time. You also helped us in ensuring that relief packages reach the people in Bundelkhand region,” the CM said.He added the government had made consistent efforts to solve the problems of PCS officers who had been able to get their longpending promotion to the IAS cadre.

General secretary of the PCS Association Pawan Gangwar said the officers were upbeat as the AGM was being organised after nine years.

Most of the officers who spoke on the occasion said they should meet every year, he added. No service association, including the UP IAS Association and UP PCS Association, were able to organise AGMs during the Mayawati regime. The UP IAS Association began organising its AGM every year after the SP came to power in 2012, the PCS Association convened its AGM this year.
