Father, brother murder married woman for ‘honour’ in Aligarh

A 20-year-old married woman’s partially burnt body was recovered from the backyard of her father’s house in Vijaypura, Chandaus area, Aligarh, on Saturday. She was allegedly having an affair with a man from the same village. On Friday, her father and brother reportedly killed her for honour. The body was sent for postmortem examinatio­n and the victim’s mother, maternal uncle and alleged lover are being interrogat­ed, said cops.

Varsha, daughter of Puran Singh was married to a man from the nearby village of Jalalpur last year. Reportedly, she was unhappy with the marriage and used to keep coming back to her father’s house. On November 29, she returned to her husband due to her parents’ persuasion but came back again. This time, she started living with one Kuldip (24), with whom she had had in a relationsh­ip for several years before her marriage.

On Friday, her father and brother coaxed her to come to their house where they allegedly murdered her. “After the murder, they attempted to burn the body,” said an investigat­ing official. Cops said that Kuldip informed them about the crime. During interrogat­ion, Kuldip told the police that he had known Varsha from school days. He also produced a marriage certificat­e of an Arya Samaj temple to show that he was married to Varsha. On unearthing records, cops also found that Puran Singh had lodged an FIR against Kuldip over a year ago, alleging that he had kidnapped Varsha.
