CM: BJP’s yatras failed due to demonetisation
Akhilesh dedicates old city’s refurbished heritage zone to people, promises more restoration in next tenure
LUCKNOW: Chief minister Akhiesh Yadav said here on Sunday that the BJP’s Parivartan yatras had failed due to demonetisation of currency.
Yadav was addressing a gathering while dedicating the heritage zone in the old city to people. The state government has carried out restoration work of historic monuments in the old city with a corpus of around `200 crore.
“Demonetisation has caused more harm to the country than good. People are forced to queue up outside banks and ATMs to collect cash,” Yadav said.
The CM said Samajwadi Party was also against black money and corruption but demonetisation had compounded people’s problems. “Parivartan yatras of the BJP have failed as their workers are unable to turn up at rally venue. They are also queuing up outside banks and ATMs to arrange cash,” the CM said.
BJP is taking out Parivartan yatras all across the state as part of its campaign for forthcoming assembly polls in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also addressing these rallies at select locations.
Yadav pointed out that due to PM Modi’s decision to discontinue high value currency notes, thousands of labourers of Uttar Pradesh had lost work.
“Several industries have retrenched their work force. Labourers are returning from Noida, Ghaziabad and Mumbai to their home town,” he said.
People would vote such a (BJP) government out of power, said the CM. “They (BJP) have only one thing to talk about and that it surgical strike”, he said.
“They (BJP) are talking about digital India. But it was the Samajwadi Party which took the first step in this director. We distributed laptops,” Yadav reminded the gathering. He also questioned what the BJP had done in UP after coming to power.
Citing his party’s achievements, he said, “From AgraLucknow Expressway to Metro train and Samajwadi Pension to 50 lakh women, the state government has done everything it had promised.”
Yadav also listed development work in Vrindavan, Mathura and even in PM Narendra Modi’s constituency, Varanasi.
