The MBBS second year microbiology exam will be conducted again for students of KGMU and four other affiliated medical colleges.

The hurried decision, that will affect over 700 medical aspirants, was taken by King George’s Medical University (KGMU) administration on Monday, though probe into the alleged paper leak is midway.

“We shall conduct the exam once again and dates will be decided by the controller of examination,” said vice chancellor Prof Ravi Kant.

Preliminary probe into the paper leak could not find anything.

The microbiology paper of MBBS second year (exam for which was held on February 17) was being circulated the next day and information was given to the examination observer who reported it to controller of examination.

As per the system, the answer key is provided to students with the result while the question paper is submitted back to invigilators after the exam. So a probe was set up.

“Primarily it does not seem a leak. But as the matter is serious we are expanding the probe to other colleges as well,” said controller of examination Prof AK Singh.

The decision to re-conduct the exam will affect over 700 students in King George’s Medical University and Allahabad, Jalaun, Azamgarh and Kannauj medical colleges affiliated to KGMU.

The paper was of 22-pages and four of the pages were circulated. It was alleged that the question paper was sold by some people.

Since KGMU students have been found involved in rackets supplying proxy solvers and a few were also picked up by Madhya Pradesh police for the Vyapam scam, the authorities want to check every angle. “The final report will come this week only,” said Prof Singh.
