Doctors begin tests on MP cop fat-shamed by socialite Shobhaa De
MUMBAI: Doctors from Saifee Hospital and the Centre for Obesity and Digestive Surgery (CODS) are performing diagnostic tests on inspector Daulatram Jogawat, the 180-kg cop from the Madhya Pradesh Police, who was fat-shamed by socialite Shobhaa De on Twitter.
Jogawat was approached by the Mumbai specialists after he stated that his weight gain resulted from medical complications, and not overeating.
Officials from CODS, which is run by Dr Muffajal Lakdawala, said Jogawat will undergo a battery of diagnostic tests to ascertain if there are insulin-related or hormonal complications.
“According to the patient’s case history, he started to put on weight after he underwent a gall bladder surgery almost a decade ago. We will be able to pinpoint the reason for his weight gain and decide on the line of treatment only after tests,” said a member of CODS.
Rakesh Kumar Sagar, assistant superintendent of Police, MP, said Jogawat had undergone a few tests back home, after which he was tasked with choosing one of the few centres that had offered him treatment options.
“When the treatment is sought using police funds, we need prior approvals. That is why it took Jogawat around four days to decide on a centre,” said Sagar.
Earlier this week, De had posted a photograph of Jogawat, which had been making the rounds on social media since the past three years.
She captioned it, ‘heavy police bandobast in Mumbai today’ inviting the ire of those on Twitter. She later apologised and asked Jogawat to seek medical aid.
