Day after Holi: Riot of colours continues

People toss their clothes on overhead power lines during celebratio­ns

If Barsana (in Mathura) is famous for its ‘Latthmar’ Holi, the Sangam city celebrates its ‘Kapda Phaad’ version of Holi a day after the festival of colours every year.

On Tuesday, revellers gathered in thousands in prominent city areas like Chowk, Rani Mandi and Lokenath among others to play and witness the unique style of Holi. Huge sprinklers were installed at various locations to make the occasion colourful.

Drenched in colourful water, the revellers also invited passers-by to join them in celebratio­ns that continued till late afternoon. A procession of donkeys also formed part of the unique celebratio­ns.

Dancing to the tunes of famous Bollywood Holi numbers, people tossed their clothes on to the overhead power lines. The ones who failed to fling their clothes saw them being torn to pieces by other revellers.

Women and children watched the fun from their terraces. Some of them threw buckets full of water on the people enjoying themselves on roads.

Police personnel deputed to ensure peace during the festivity watched the event as they discharged their duty. Sharing his experience about the ‘Kapda Phar’ Holi, one Anand Tandon, a resident of Kalyani Devi area, recounted how thousands of locals had been participat­ing in the celebratio­ns year after year for decades.

He added that he keenly waited for the Holi celebratio­ns every year.

CELEBRATIO­N IN KASHI

Holi was celebrated in a colourful manner across eastern UP, including Varanasi. Holi songs reverberat­ed at ghats where many foreigners painted faces of one another with colours. Locals also joined them. They danced to the tunes of thrilling numbers.

Thandaai was all in demand among locals and foreigners equally.

A few foreigners were seen enjoying thandaai and delicious ghujiyaas. Many a youths put on different masks. Many among the youths chanted Modi Modi while whizzing past on their bikes. DJs were played at many locations across the city. Kavi sammellan were also organised. Celebratio­ns continued till late evening.

Holi was celebrated with colourful fervour in Ghazipur, Chandauli, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Bhadohi and Mau. Tight security arrangemen­ts were made across the city.

No untoward incident was reported from any part of the city. Some sporadic incidents of brawl were reported from Azamgarh. Police, however, managed to control these incidents soon.

Festivity was continued in Banaras even on Tuesday. Several Holi Milan programme were organised across the city. A large number of people visited ghats.

Being next day of Holi, most of the shops remained closed. People were busy in exchanging greetings.

Winner BJP MLAs, including Neelkanth Tiwari, Ravindra Jaiswal, Surendra Singh, Anil Rajbhar and others celebrated Holi with their supporters.
