:Two days of Holi celebrations across the state were the busiest for the newly set up ‘UP 100’, an integrated emergency police response centre. On March 13, the centre attended to 24,513 incidents, including 955 cases of road accidents while 14,888 incidents (mostly related to disputes over Holika Dahan) were addressed on March 12.

“On Holi day, police response vehicles (PRV) attended 14,092 calls related to brawl with neighbours and 955 calls related to road accidents across UP. Most of the brawls were resolved after intervention of PRV personnel. Similarly, at least 332 road accident victims were admitted to hospitals,” said Rahul Srivastava, ASP and state police spokesman.

Srivastava said 93% of the disputes were resolved on the spot and trouble was averted. He said the UP police’s alertness averted several incidents of communal clashes across UP.

The UP 100 personnel had circulated witty messages in social media to make people aware and not get involved in any unlawful activity. An interesting message of UP 100 twitter handle read: ‘Molesting a girl on Holi will invite police faster than pizza and a treat for you in jail’.

The UP 100 centre is operational in all 75 districts of the state since January 7. The project was inaugurated on November 19, but initially the facility was available in 31 districts while the remaining districts were connected to it gradually in four phases.

Callers can request for police assistance by dialling 100 and the facility enables police to reach the trouble site within 20 minutes of the phone call. The centre also responds to e-mails and complaints on social media.

Later, the centre gets feedback from callers on the services rendered and further legal proceedings initiated by the local police.
