INTEGRATED LED ILLUMINATION WILL ADD TO THE MAP’S VISUAL APPEAL.

Now, to add to the Nawabi-era structures dotting the Old City area, a ‘monumental map’ of brass will soon be an attraction for the tourists visiting the state capital. In yet another move aimed at boosting tourism and beautifying the area, the state government is installing a colossal 3D map of heritage structures at Hussainabad.

Government officials engaged in its installation called it a unique initiative designed to provide information on all Old city monuments to the tourists. “It’s a first-of-its-kind endeavour. Its design makes it distinct from all others,” said an official with the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) — the agency engaged in the installation of the map.

The metal structure will highlight monuments such as ‘Tile Wali Masjid’, ‘Jama Masjid’, ‘Bara Imambara’, ‘Naubat Khana’, ‘Rumi Gate’, ‘Clock Tower’, ‘Satkhanda’, ‘Picture Gallery’, ‘Chhota Imambara’ and others.

The map coming up opposite Bada Imambara and covering the stretch from Rumi Gate to Naubat Khana, is engraved on a thick metal sheet. “It is a 3D map that has almost all the Old City monuments embossed on it. For example, there’s a rectangular engraving of stairs that resembles the pond opposite the picture gallery. Similarly, it also has impressions of Bara Imambara, Chhota Imambara, Picture Gallery and other monuments,” said an LDA Official.

The map also has metal cutouts of heritage structures welded on top of it. Integrated LED illumination will add to its visual appeal. “Illumination will play an important part in beautifully highlighting the monuments. There will be a different light code for the structures featured on it,” the official added.

Siddartha Bathla, creative head of Archohm, a company involved in the Old City beautification project, said, “It’s perhaps the first map installed in the Old City, which highlights monuments - including prominent and lesser known ones - like this.”

The installation is expected to be completed sometime this month.
