LUCKNOW: A day after tendering his resignation to UP governor Ram Naik, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav celebrated Holi in family bastion Saifai in Etawah district in the absence of party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.Party general secretary, Ram Gopal Yadav, also skipped the function.

But supporters of Akhilesh and Shivpal Singh Yadav celebrated the festival of colours with usual fun and fervour in separate functions. Shivpal was accompanied by his son Aditya Yadav. Akhilesh interacted with workers at Saifai. The disappointment of party’s defeat at the hustings was writ large on the faces of SP workers, who had come from Kanpur and various other adjoining districts to participate in the function.

Shivpal and his son celebrated Holi on SS Memorial School ground, where a ‘pandal’ had been erected especially for the purpose. They attended the Saifai Holi celebrations only after CM left the venue indicating that rift in the Yadav family still persisted. Shivpal then left for Jaswantnagar where he again took part in the celebrations with party workers and supporters in his assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has called a meeting of its newly-elected MLAs on Thursday to take stock of party’s poor showing in the recently concluded UP assembly elections. SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, who has been maintaining a low-profile of late, would also be present at the meet, according to party sources.

Akhilesh, who spent time with party workers at Janeshwar Mishra Trust office here on Tuesday said candidates who had lost would also attend the meeting and give their feedback. He, however, refused to comment as to who would be party’s leader of the Opposition would be in the new assembly.
