Confirming this on Tuesday, principal secretary, sports, Anita Bhatnagar Jain said discussions had already taken place in this regard with SAI director I Srinivas, who also happens to be the sports secretary with the government of India.

“The SAI bosses have evinced enough interest to make use of already existing facilities of sports as SAI centres across the state,” stated Jain, adding, “Multipurpose hall, swimming, table tennis complex, basketball court and 200-bed dormitory in Barabanki, Baraut stadium, wrestling hall, shooting range, 200m athletics track in Baghpat, and international all-weather pool at Saifai will be made as SAI centres.”

Besides naming director, sports, RP Singh as the nodal officer for this purpose on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh Sports Directorate, a three-member committee has also been formed to examine the plan.

The three-member committee includes SAI Gandhi Nagar’s regional director RK Naidu, PO Mission Olympics Cell, Rajendra Pathania and SAI’s Lucknow director Rajendra Singh.

“Establishment of SAI centres will not only ensure the use of already available sports infrastructure of the state but state sportspersons will also get top quality training,” she further said.
