A total of 140 examinees were caught using unfair means in the ongoing UP Board’s High School and Intermediate examination in different districts of the state on Thursday.

As per reports, 94 examinees were caught using unfair means in science examination of high school held in the morning shift while 46 examinees were caught cheating during physics examination of Intermediate held in the afternoon shift.

As per reports received from UP Board headquarters, within a week since examinations of UP Board commenced on March 16, a significant 5,25,021 examinees including 3,20,176 examinees of high school and 2,04,845 examinees of Intermediate have quit examinations largely due to strict measures implemented by the Board this year to check use of unfair means.

A total of 60,61,034 students were registered to appear in Board’s High School and Intermediate examination including 34,04,715 examinees in High School examination and 26,56,319 students for Intermediate examination.

It may be mentioned that due to online registrations introduced by the Board in 2015-’16 academic session, the copying mafia active till last year failed to get their bogus candidates registered at the last minute. Introduction of online registrations, as per Board secretary Shail Yadav, also resulted in decline of around 7 lakh candidates for 2016-17 examination as compared to 2015-16 Board examinations.

‘MUNNA BHAI’ CAUGHT AT NIGOHAN COLLEGE

A boy was caught writing high school science paper of the UP Board as a proxy candidate at Satya Narayan Tewari Inter College in Nigohan on Thursday. The squad, led by assistant district inspector of schools (DIoS) Vimlesh Kumar, caught Inayath Hussain, a resident of Saadatganj, who was taking examination in the place of one Shameem Haider.

The students were taking their science examination when the squad entered a room and asked a boy his name. He said his name was Inayath Hussain while the admit card he was carrying showed his name as Shameem Haider. This led to confusion and further interrogation highlighted the fraud.

The boy has been arrested. Officials said action will be initiated against the both the boys and also the coaching centre that made the boy fill the form for the examination. Inayath said he had filled the form through a coaching centre that had charged him Rs 6000. DIoS Umesh Tripathi said action will be initiated against the coaching centre as well. The boy had already answered two examinations and the centre authorities did not have any clue about the fraud.
