Taking a cue from recent instructions following from the newly elected Aditya Nath Yogi government, the Uttar Pradesh Higher Education Service Commission (UPHESC) on Wednesday on its own suspended recruitment interviews for the posts of assistant professors going to be organised by it.

The decision has been taken by the chairman of the commission Prabhat Kumar Mittal even though the commission has received no specific instructions from the state government in this regard. Following the move, the interviews that were to be held between March 24 and March 31 have been postponed till further notice. The UPHESC chairman Prabhat Kumar Mittal said that following news of the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission suspending its interviews for various recruitments, he spoke to the principal secretary who shared that no such instructions to suspend interviews had been issued till date for UPHESC by the state government. “However on the advice of the principal secretary and in light of the prevailing scenario, interviews scheduled till March 31 had been postponed till further instructions,” he added.

Mittal said that following recruitment interviews being suspended by UPPSC as well as Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Seva Chayan Board, the candidates as such were in a doubt and many failed to appear in the scheduled interviews on Thursday. This also prompted us to take the decision, he added.

It is worth mentioning that recruitment interviews for the posts of assistant professors of different subjects fo appointment in government-aided degree colleges had kicked off on March 21 and were to continue till March 31. Under this recruitment, 1652 posts of assistant professors of 45 different subjects were to be filled. Out of the total, results of written exams of 44 subjects have already been declared while final results of 34 of these subjects have also been declared by the commission. Interviews for the remaining 10 subjects were presently underway. Set up on October 1, 1980 after approval of UP Higher Education Service Commission ordinance-1980 issued by Uttar Pradesh Legislature, UPHESC is empowered to carry out appointments of qualified candidates according to criteria decided by UGC and state government for the post of principal and assistant professors in non-official Graduate and Post-graduate universities subsidized by State government.
