LUCKNOW : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will on Thursday undertake his first visit to the backward Bundelkhand region that has remained caught in the quagmire of politics over the years.

He is likely to take feedback and may make some announcements in Jhansi, the divisional headquarters, on issues facing the region, including the drinking water problem.

He is likely to review implementation of development projects and make a field visit to ponds that had been dug up during the previous Samajwadi Party regime in Babina, Badagaon or other areas in the region.

After assuming office, the chief minister had released a sum of Rs 47 crore for drinking water schemes in the region. He has already indicated that the state government would provide more funds as and when needed to find a solution to the problems of the region.

Apart from holding meetings with senior officers of Bundelkhand division and discuss problems, the chief minister will also meet senior BJP leaders of the region.

A special cleanliness drive has been launched and all the government offices and major roads are being cleaned up for the visit. Hoardings have also come up in the city to welcome the chief minister there. A number of schemes have been announced for Bundelkhand by successive governments at centre and in the state.

The UPA government had announced a special package of Rs 7000 crore (50 percent for Bundelkhand districts in UP) for development of the region. But Bundelkhand has remained backward over the years.
