LUCKNOW : On the first day of the drive against encroachment, the district administration freed over 5 hectares of government land from the clutches of encroachers.

Officials also lodged FIRs against four illegal colonisers and bulldozed the illegal structures. The crackdown began in the rural pockets, with a team of administrative officials under SDM Sadar Raj Kamal Yadav, razing illegal establishments in tehsil Sadar.

In the tehsil, the administrative officials got around 13 bighas of land free from encroachment near Dhava village.

“It was among the prime lands the market value of which is around ₹51 crore,” said Raj Kamal Yadav.

This was followed by another crackdown in the same tehsil in Amrai village, where around 0.7 bighas of land that belonged to the disaster management department was cleared of encroachments.

Yadav said the land was occupied by illegal plotters. FIR has been lodged against them. The land is worth around ₹28 crore.

The anti-encroachment drives was also launched in half a dozen other pockets and land worth ₹80 crores (21 bighas) was freed, he added.

The SDM said the drive would continue till the tehsils were made encroachment free. In the days to come, the drive would be launched in urban pockets including Gomti Nagar, Hazratganj and other areas.
