LUCKNOW: A couple approached Nirvan Centre on Wednesday, claiming that the ‘Mowgli girl’ was actually their daughter.

But as they could not provide any evidence in support of their claim, officials at the Nirvan centre sent them to the child welfare committee (CWC) office.

“A man named Bhullar and his wife from Jaunpur claimed Ehsaas was their daughter. But when I asked them to tell me something about her or any birth mark they failed,” said SS Dhapola, head of the centre.

The couple said there was a mark on her knee which came out to be incorrect.

“There is actually a birth mark on her neck and is visible but they did not mention it. As I was unable to decide I sent them to CWC,” he said, adding: “In any case, we cannot hand over the child unless the CWC decides so. They need to fulfil the procedure there only.”

The girl is presently ill and suffering from low BP (90/ 60) for which treatment is being given. The girl is being taken to the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia hospital OPD everyday.

The child was spotted by the forest staff in Bahraich in Kartaniya forest area and admitted to the district hospital. She was unable to tell anything about her and due to her behaviour it appeared that she had lived with monkeys for a few days , because she behaved just like them.

That is how she got the name ‘Mowgli girl.’ But doctors later ruled this out and said she might be doing so just because she might have seen them while in forest and it was simple imitation as any other child would do. Women welfare minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi also visited the girl .

“She has not started speaking. She says ‘dana’ when she wants food and ‘na’ when she wants to say no,” said Saroj, the special educator at Nirvan.

“After living with us for a few days, she recognizes me. But she did not pay any attention when the couple claiming to be her parents came here. How is this possible that a child forgets her parents?” said Dhapola.
