Increase super-specialty seats in medical institutions, says medical edu minister
LUCKNOW: Medical education minister Ashutosh Tandon on Wednesday asked officials not to waste money on purchasing equipment unless they have proper arrangements to operate them.
He was upset over the fact that in several institutes equipment was purchased but not started on time, hence they became obsolete or defunct which was a waste of money.
During a review meeting, he asked department officials to make efforts to increase superspecialty seats in medical institutions of UP so that better services could be given to patients.
It was also decided that a high level committee would review the status of healthcare facilities UP and give its report on how to improve the same.
The meeting was attended by PGI director, KGMU V-C, Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences director, additional chief secretary Anita Bhatnagar Jain, director-general medical education Dr VN Tripathi and other senior officials of the department.
The minister directed officials to study models of healthcare in Chattisgarh, Uttarakhand and other states and find out how those states were improving the healthcare system. He asked officials to find out if PGI’s model of hospital management could be replicated in other medical institutions in UP.
