CISF to station reserve battalions in Uttar Pradesh

LUCKNOW: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) that provides security to vital government installations and infrastructure projects across the country has decided to station two reserved battalions in the state.

The CISF has urged the state government to allot land for construction of infrastructure facilities for the deployment of its battalion.

DG, CISF, OP Singh met chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday to discuss the deployment of reserved battalions. The state government had allotted 70 acre land to CISF in Chunar area of Mirzapur district in September 2015 but it has not been transferred to it by the revenue department as a portion of the land has been marked as hill.

During the meeting, Singh urged the CM to expedite the process of allotment land in Mirzapur and provide land for stationing of one more battalion in any other part of the state.

Singh assured the CM that the CISF would maintain the hill falling in the land allotted to it in Mirzapur and would follow environment rules. The CM assured Singh that the state government would look into the issue and forward the CISF demand to the department concerned. Singh said 19,000 CISF jawans were native of UP. “CISF has 34 units and offices in the state. Stationing of reserved battalion will not only add to security preparedness but will also resolve the issue of the transfer of personnel and residential facilities to their family members,” he said.

One battalion comprises 1,100 personnel and needs 70-100 acre land to create facilities for deployment of force.

Stationing of reserved battalions will add to the strength of the central paramilitary force deployed in the state for protection of government installations such as atomic power plant, refineries, airports, barrages, thermal power plants, fertilizer plants and industrial units.
