Mild showers may give respite from heat today
LUCKNOW: Cloudy skies and possible mild showers on Friday are likely to provide relief to people who have been reeling under the scorching sun for the last few days.
The state capital has been recording day temperature above 40 degrees Celsius in the last few days. On Thursday, the maximum temperature in Lucknow was recorded at 40.3 degrees C which was 2 degrees above normal. The night temperature was recorded at 26.2 degrees C which was 5 degrees above normal. The relative humidity on the day was recorded at 81 per cent.
On Wednesday, the mercury soared to 41.8 degrees Celsius. State met director JP Gupta said, “While cloudy skies on Friday are likely to bring some relief, day temperature is also likely to dip by 1-2 degrees C. Further respite is in store in April end when one more round of mild showers is expected in UP.”
Talking about growing humidity during the week that made life difficult for people, Gupta added, “South westerly winds are adding to the humidity and warmth in the air. The conditions are likely to normalise in a couple of days.”
Meanwhile, parents have been demanding closure of schools as commuting in the 42 degree C heat is becoming tough for children after schools get over.
“The school gets over at 1 pm when the sun is at its peak. Travelling in a school van is a nightmare as children remain on the road when it is the hottest time of the day. This is making them vulnerable to heat strokes,” said Mitali Sood, a housewife and mother of two.
Parents suggest that either the schools should start early and end early or they should be closed down till the weather normalises.
Heat strokes and dehydration are common problems being reported by people as the scorching heat of April is already becoming unbearable. Doctors advice increased intake of fluids to keep the body hydrated.
