Trying to flee from police custody, man killed in road accident
LUCKNOW: A 30-year-old man was crushed to death by a speeding roadways bus while he was being taken to a court in police custody on the city outskirts in Nigoha area here on Thursday afternoon. Police had arrested the victim Ram Sajeevan for causing nuisance after his wife Mithilesh Kumari had lodged complaint about him on Wednesday night. Locals alleged that he was crushed by the roadways bus while he tried to flee from the police custody.
The incident took place when constable Luvdeep Kumar along with homeguard Ram Lotan was taking the victim to the court of SDM Mohanlalganj at around 1pm. District police spokesman said Ram Sajeevan came under the wheels of bus while crossing the divider in front of the police station. He said the victim was rushed to community health centre of Mohanlalganj where he was declared brought dead. He said the bus driver Akhilesh Singh has been arrested and the bus has been seized after registering an FIR of reckless driving and causing death due to negligence. Further probe is on into the matter.
THEFT AT RETIRED AIR EMPLOYEE’S HOUSE
Burglars broke into the house of a retired All India Radio employee JC Pandey and fled with cash and valuables worth several lakhs in Khurramnagar locality. Pandey said the theft took place when he along with his family was out of station between April 14 and 20. He said his neighbours informed about the presence of suspicious persons in front of his house following which he asked his maid over phone to immediately inquire about the matter. He said the maid later informed about the theft. He said the entire house was found ransacked when he returned to Lucknow on Wednesday. He has lodged an FIR of theft against unidentified miscreants.
