‘ISRO TO PLAY BIGGER ROLE IN COUNTRY’S DEVELOPMENT’
VARANASI: Former chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Dr K Kasturirangan on Thursday said the Indian space agency would play a bigger role in the country’s development in future.
Delivering Prof Gopal Tripathi Memorial Lecture on ‘Space – A new route for National Development’ at IIT-BHU, Dr Kasturirangan said with the advent of remote sensing considerable progress had been made in the fields of weather and climate forecasting, agriculture, sea management, and disaster management.
“India has made considerable progress with the launch of communication, meteorological and navigational satellites. Space science is also helping in the fields of tele-education and telemedicine. Chandrayan and Mangalyan have been the focal point in the country’s development and ISRO’s role will increase day by day,” Dr K Kasturirangan added.
Head, chemical engineering and technology, Prof PK Mishra threw light on the evolution of engineering department. Dr VL Yadav and Prof SN Upadhyay introduced the life and work of late Prof Gopal Tripathi and Dr Kasturirangan.
Officiating director, IIT-BHU, Prof GVS Sastry presided over the function. Plaque and angvastram were presented to Dr K Kasturirangan. Dr Bhawna Verma proposed the vote of thanks.
Prominent among those who attended the memorial lecture included Prof ON Srivastava, Prof KK Srivastava, Prof AK Verma, Prof PN Tiwari, Prof AK Jain, Prof Rajendra Prasad, Dr Chandana Rath and Dr Medha Jha .
