Concerned over the unlawful activities of the right wing hardliners as well as BJP leaders, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the police officers to act tough and take strict action against those trying to disrupt law and order.
A senior police officer said, “The CM was apprised about the vandalism at Saharanpur SSP’s residence by BJP supporters led by MP Raghav Lakhanpal Sharma on Thursday. Once the CM ordered for action, FIR was registered against BJP MP, two BJP MLAs as well as local leaders. Police also registered a case against the anti-social elements who pelted the procession taken out to mark birth anniversary of Bhimrao Ambedkar with stones,” he said.
Police officers were also directed to take action against the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader who slapped a deputy superintendent of police in Agra while organizing a demonstration near Taj Mahal on Saturday. Officers were also told to register case against the Bajrang Dal activists who attacked a policeman at Fatehpur Sikri police station and set his motorcycle ablaze.
Police also registered an FIR against BJP workers in Nath Nagar area of Sant Kabir Nagar district following a clash with the SP workers on Friday.
“The CM was told about the incident while he was attending a review meeting. He directed the officers to take action against the people who indulged in violence, irrespective of their party affiliation”, said a Home department officer.
Yogi also directed newly appointed DGP Sulkhan Singh to not spare the people who tried to take law into their hand. Later talking to the media persons, Singh made it clear that police will take action against those who indulged in vigilantism in the name of ‘gau raksha’.
“I have the backing of the chief minister,” he said.
Earlier addressing party workers in a meeting organized in Jhansi on Thursday, Yogi had told the workers not to indulge in violence and to get out of the habit of hitting the street to register protest. He told the workers to monitor the implementation of the schemes and projects launched by the state government.
On March 17, Yogi had pulled up the members of Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV) for indulging in vigilantism.
To check the entry of anti-social elements in the organization, it was decided to conduct proper scrutiny before inducting a person into HYV.
State general secretary of HYV PK Mall said, “HYV will launch a drive against untouchability to bring the Dalits and extremely backward castes in the mainstream of the society. Members will participate in community feasts in the rural and urban areas.
“Hindu Yuva Vahini cadres have been told to assist people from the weaker sections in getting their FIR lodged in the police station. We also monitor the investigation of the case and action taken against the culprits,” he said.
