Woman’s death at Lohia hosp: Minister orders probe
Ram Manohar Lohia hospital hit the headlines for the wrong reasons yet again, as a woman died allegedly due to negligence of doctors but this time the health minister took quick action and himself conducted preliminary inquiry on Monday before ordering a detailed probe. The probe report will be submitted to the ministry on Tuesday.
Hindustan Times had carried a report on the incident (on Monday) in which the family alleged that the woman Kalimo, a resident of Gwari village, was turned back on Saturday night after being administered a pain killer injection.
She died in severe pain early on Sunday, when the family was bringing her to the hospital .
The minister reached the hospital at around 10.15 on Monday and went straight to hospital director Dr Negi’s room.
He met the doctors who were on duty then – Dr Shalu and Dr Shubhra – and then called the ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) Anita Yadav and even saw the documents of 102 ambulance that had brought the woman to the hospital. The minister came to know how the hospital staff behaved with the woman and her family and that she was turned back even after her condition was serious.
During the interaction, the doctors at the hospital told the health minister that they had not even seen the patient and the nurses had provided the medication. Earlier, a youth had died when a surgeon from this hospital operated on him in a private clinic.
In another case, the staff here declared a newborn as dead and handed over the child to the family. The father realized the child was alive when just before performing the last rites he removed the shroud to see the face of the child.
