day after getting bail in a case of alleged gang-rape with a woman and attempt to rape with her minor daughter, former UP minister Gayatri Prajapati was again remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday in two other cases lodged against him.

“Prajapati will remain in jail till he gets bail in the other two cases in which court has granted his fresh judicial custody,” said Praveen Kumar, DIG (Lucknow range). The judicial custody in two cases was granted by the courts of chief judicial magistrate (CJM) and additional CJM-III, he said.

The Lucknow police will also move the application in Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court for cancellation of Prajapati’s bail, he said.

The DIG said the court of CJM Sandhya Srivastava granted Prajapati’s judicial custody in a case lodged by senior IPS officer Amitabh Thakur’s wife Nutan Thakur against him for trying to frame them in a fake case of two minor girls’ sexual harassment after she lodged a complaint (of illegal mining) against him to the Lokayukta.

The court granted Prajapati’s 14-day judicial custody in the matter (till May 10), he added.

Nutan Thakur had lodged the FIR against Prajapati and his accomplices with Gomti Nagar police station on June 20, 2015. The police had first filed the final report in the case on July 13, 2015 but the then CJM Hitendra Hari had ordered re-investigation into the case in December, 2015. Since then, the case was pending with the Gomti Nagar police station and it was recently transferred to inspector Vinod Sharma of Lucknow crime branch on March 23, 2017. The inspector had applied for judicial custody of Prajapati in the CJM court on Tuesday a few hours after the former minister was granted bail from the court of special judge of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO), Lucknow, Om Prakash Mishra in connection with the gangrape and attempt to rape case lodged against him and his six aides at Gautampalli police station on February 18.

However, Prajapati’s release order was not issued as the court asked for verification of bail guarantors before allowing him to come out of Lucknow jail where he is lodged since March 15 after being arrested in the gangrape case from Para area. Additional SP of Crime Branch said the inspector had been asked to expedite probe into the matter.

In another case of fraud against Prajapati lodged with Gautampalli police station on March 21, the court of ACJM-III Ritesh Sachdeva granted his judicial custody till May 9. This FIR was lodged by SP leader Rakesh Prajapati of Meerut and he accused the former minister of taking ₹6 lakh from him on the pretext of providing government job for his cousin Adesh Kumar.
