The heads of educational institutions in the city have welcomed Uttar Pradesh cabinet’s decision to scrap 15 public holidays that were declared over the years to mark the birth/death anniversaries of eminent leaders and a few festivals.

They said CM’s decision is praiseworthy as it will improve students’ academic performance in UP.

This is a good step in the direction of inculcating a strong work culture in our state, head of the institutions said.

Most schools in the state capital have been complaining about large number of holidays that often act as a burden to complete the syllabus on time.

Geeta Gandhi Kingdon, president of CMS said, “This is a principled and responsible decision and it will give the children of UP a better chance to compete in national level competitions and college entrance tests wherein until now they are behind the children from other states due to substantially fewer instructional days.”

Urvashi Sahni, founding president and CEO of Study hall educational foundation said, “All of us at Study hall Foundation, the teachers and students, applaud the state government’s decision to reduce the number of holidays in UP.” Not just holidays, in the past the local administration also forced closure of schools due to inclement weather.

Mala Singh Mehra, principal at Hoerner College, said “It is a welcome step taken by our chief minister. It releases a lot of pressure from school principals, students and parents alike towards timely completion of syllabus as well as administrative duties. I am sure all schools will agree with this decision.”

Principal of St Teresa School, Aashiana Geetika Kapoor said, “It is a welcome move and long awaited. Students should be made aware of the importance of all festivals /jayantis and know about all the great leaders and their contributions.

In the last few years the working days were cut down drastically that had an adverse impact on the curriculum.”
