LMC to use tech for public connect

Anyone wanting to complain about glowing street light during the day time can just send the picture to Lucknow Municipal Corporation on WhatsApp.

The problem would be solved within 20 minutes. LMC has came out with a WhatsApp number 9415008409 on which the residents can send photo of street lights lit up during the day time. They can write about the place and pole number and within 20 min LMC staff will switch it off.

Similarly, if the photo of street light not switched on during evening hours is posted, it would be switched on within 30 minutes.

Those street lights which are not fit for use or have fused bulbs would be replaced in 24 hours following the complaint.

Municipal commissioner Udairaj Singh said, “There are more than 1.50 lakh points in the city and every point cannot be inspected by the engineers daily so if the residents remain alert and inform us about the state of all the points, then we can improve the street light situation in the city. No crossing or street will remain without light. At the same time we can prevent wastage of power.”

He said, “I have also written to other departments like Lucknow Development Authority, PWD and NHAI to ensure that street lights under their control must not remain lit up during the day time. This is important to save energy.”

Incharge of street light department Deepak Yadav said, “The effort is to save energy. Already we are replacing sodium lights with LED street lights. The LMC has reduced its power bill by 60% in areas where traditional sodium bulbs have been replaced by new LED bulbs.”

Deepak Yadav believes by use of technology the LMC can connect with residents in a better way.

“The LMC can understand them better if they keep on giving feedback on our work. LMC is not against criticism but we also need some pat on the back for the good work which we do.”
