Shashank Verma hits ton, helps ASCA win tourney in Sri Lanka

LUCKNOW: Opener Shashank Verma slammed a sparkling century as Lucknow’s Abhijeet Sinha Cricket Academy (ASCA) won the Bentota Twenty20 Cricket Trophy, defeating hosts Bentota Cricket Academy by 78 runs, at the Gamini College ground in Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

With this win, ASCA happens to be the first team from Lucknow, winning an internatio­nal event during the last five years.

Shashank struck 70-ball 102 with the help of eight fours and two sixes as ASCA piled up 206 for six in 20 overs while batting first after winning the toss.

In reply, Shashank Verma, Sankalp Jain, Amanraj Singh and Mannath Tewari shared eight wickets between then to get to rivals out for 128 in 20 overs. Shashank and Mannath were given special awards.

Vinay Mishra took four wickets, whereas Shoib hammered a halfcentur­y as Jyoti Cricket Club (JCC) defeated Lucknow Colts by eight wickets to win the Saud-UlHasan twenty20 Cricket Tournament, at the Pt Raas Bihari Tewari Stadium here on Wednesday. SELECTION TRIALS

Trials to pick district junior boys and girls basketball teams will be held on Saturday at the Vidra Tree Modern World College here in Aliganj at 4.00 p.m.

Players born or after January 1, 1999 are eligible to participat­e. Selected teams will take part in the 28th Junior State Championsh­ip, scheduled to be held from May 10 to 14 at Meerut, states LDBA secretary Pankaj Sinha.
