MOST CITY PETROL PUMPS ‘CHEATING CUSTOMERS’

LUCKNOW: Officers of the district administra­tion were in for a surprise after they detected during a checking drive that majority of petrol pumps in the state capital were using remote-operated-device to short-change their customers, on Thursday. The district administra­tion started a crack down on the petrol pumps late in the evening on a tip-off. The action followed frequent complaints from customers about getting less petrol from the fuel stations. A majority of such complaints were from old city area, sources said.

Officers of the district administra­tion were in for a surprise after they detected during a checking drive that majority of petrol pumps in the state capital were using remote-operated-device to short-change their customers, on Thursday.

The district administra­tion started a crack down on the petrol pumps late in the evening on a tip-off.

As per the officials, a majority of petrol pumps were found using the remote operated devices programmed to tamper with the measuring scale. The action followed the frequent complaints from the customers about getting less petrol from the petrol pumps. A majority of such complaints were old city area, they said.

“We have launched the drive in almost every part of the city, especially the ones from where we received the maximum complaints,” said Dr Alka Verma, additional district magistrate (civil supplies) who headed the raids.

She said strict action would be initiated against the erring petrol pump owners.

Lucknow district magistrate, GS Priyadarsh­i, who is yet to take charge as DM Muzzafarna­gar, said tampering with the measuring instrument was a serious offence. Officials are conducting raids in all parts of the city to bring the owners of erring petrol pumps to book. The checking drive was going on at the time of going to the Press.
