‘Impersonator’ was in Bareilly on night of accident, says wife
BAREILLY: : In yet another twist in the Ghaziabad Audi case, the wife of the ‘impersonator’ told media that she was being approached by some people to admit that her husband, Imtiaz Qadri was employed as a driver of Dr Manish Rawat.
“My husband was in Bareilly on January 27-28 night when the accident happened. He was approached by a few people to surrender in court for some money,” Ayesha said on Friday.
Four people were killed in Ghaziabad when an Audi collided with auto-rickshaw on January 27-28 night. The car was registered in the name of Dr Manish Rawat who went missing after the accident. On January 31, Qadri impersonated as his former co-tenant Ishaq Ahmed – a truck driver – and surrendered in Ghaziabad court. Qadri claimed that he was driving the Audi car, which crashed into the auto-rickshaw. Later, it was revealed that Qadri used a photocopy of Ishaq’s driving licence to impersonate the latter in court.
Qadri, along with Ayesha and their children, had fled to Mumbai where he was arrested a fortnight ago for theft and chainsnatching. He also told Mumbai police that he was given Rs 7,000 by Dr Manish Rawat, one Rajkumar and other persons to appear in Ghaziabad court.
“We were in dire need of money and the lawyers told my husband that it was only to claim insurance for the Audi car. He was not informed that four people were killed in the accident. So my husband accepted their offer and appeared in court,” said Ayesha. Ayesha also said she was called to Bareilly from Mumbai to admit that her husband was employed as a driver of Dr Rawat. “I was called to Bareilly last week by a lawyer who paid for my travel. I was made to sign some papers. I fear that these papers can be used to implicate my husband in the accident case.” Ayesha refuted Dr Rawat’s claims that Qadri was employed as his driver when he was in Bareilly 18 months ago.
