ALLAHABAD: Seven police personnel, including an SHO and three women constables, were injured when villagers pelted them with stones in trans-Yamuna area over an alleged murder of a boy on Friday.

The villagers vandalised Manda police station and staged a road blockade on the MandaKoraon road.

Police had to fire several rounds in the air to disperse the angry mob. Situation was tense and heavy force was deployed in the area till reports last came in.

Sonu, the 14-year-son of Girdharpur villager Nebulal Sonkar, went to install a loudspeaker at the house of Tolan Tiwari in Shukulpur village on Thursday night. Nebulal launched a search for his son when Sonu failed to return till late in the night. Sonu’s mobile also was on switch off mode. On Friday morning, his body with injury marks was found in a pond in Shukulpur village.

Enraged over it, villagers in large numbers ransacked Manda police station and blocked the road alleging foul play.

Senior administrative and police officials rushed to the scene and tried to pacify them but to no avail.

Inspector Manda, Krishnaveer Singh; inspector, Industrial Area, PS Rawat; three women constables and two sub-inspectors suffered injuries in the stone pelting by the villagers.

Superintendent of police, trans-Yamuna, AK Rai said further probe would be carried out after receiving the post-mortem report of the deceased boy. “Action will also be taken against those involved in the rampage too,” he added.
