The Yogi Adityanath cabinet on Tuesday pushed its saffron agenda further and decided to set up Ayodhya Nagar Nigam (Ayodhya Municipal Corporation) and Mathura-Vrindavan Nagar Nigam to provide better public amenities to the pilgrims visiting these places. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath presided over the meeting of the state cabinet that also decided to adopt Uttar Pradesh Vendors Rules-2017 to regulate roadside vendors.
The Yogi Adityanath cabinet on Tuesday pushed its saffron agenda further and decided to set up Ayodhya Nagar Nigam (Ayodhya Municipal Corporation) and Mathura-Vrindavan Nagar Nigam to provide better public amenities to the pilgrims visiting these places.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath presided over the meeting of the state cabinet that also decided to adopt Uttar Pradesh Vendors Rules-2017 to regulate roadside vendors.
Briefing media persons, minister Shrikant Sharma said the municipal bodies of Ayodhya and Faizabad (Nagar Palika Parishad) would be merged and upgraded to Ayodhya Nagar Nigam. Similarly, the municipal bodies of Mathura and Vrindavan (Nagar Palika Parishad) would be merged and upgraded to Mathura-Vrindavan Nagar Nigam, he said.
“Crores of people have faith in Lord Ram and foreigners also visit Ayodhya for pilgrimage. The state government was committed to provide better public amenities and road, rail and air connectivity to the pilgrims visiting Ayodhya,” said Sharma.
“The state government is also committed to provide better amenities to pilgrims visiting Mathura and Vrindavan. Both the places do not have sufficient number of toilets and efforts will be made for cleaning of the Yamuna. Both the places are of international significance,” said Sharma.
Replying to a question, Sharma said both the municipal corporations would be constituted soon. He said the elections to both the corporations would be conducted along with forthcoming elections to other urban local bodies. About ongoing agitation against merger of Mathura and Vrindavan municipal bodies, Sharma said the state government would take everybody along while setting up the new municipal corporation.
Minister Siddharth Nath Singh said the cabinet approved the UP Vendors Rules 2017 to regulate street vendors. He said though the Modi government had formulated law for the benefit of street vendors in 2014 the previous Samajwadi Party regime did not implement the law. He said the new regulations would check extortion from the street vendors and a committee comprising street vendors would be constituted to oversee implementation of the regulations. A committee headed by Nagar Ayukta/executive officer with representatives of vendors will be constituted. The committee will have a five-year tenure. The state government has been empowered to dissolve the committee anytime. The committee will issue identity cards to the registered street vendors. No person less than 14 years of age will be registered as a street vendor and efforts will be made to ensure school education to such underage applicants.
