ALLAHABAD : The Allahabad high court on Tuesday directed the CBI to file within three weeks the DNA test report of Ram Vriksh Yadav, the prime accused in the Jawaharbagh violence in Mathura where 29 people, including two police officers, were killed in an operation to evict squatters from a public park on June 2 last year. After the violence, police had declared one of the charred bodies as that of Ram Vriksh Yadav, saying that his aides had identified the body.

The bench comprising chief justice DB Bhosale and justice Yashwant Varma passed Tuesday’s order while hearing public interest litigation (PIL) petitions filed by Vijay Pal Singh Tomar and several others.

Last week, the high court had shown displeasure after perusing the CBI’s preliminary report in the case. The court had said the CBI report did not mention compliance with the high court’s earlier directives. The court had directed the CBI to constitute two independent teams for a probe on March 2, 2017. One team was asked to investigate and submit a report with regard to the incident which occurred at Jawahar Bagh on June 2, 2016. Another team will undertake a comprehensive investigation with regard to the unexplained inaction on the part of the state government despite intelligence inputs and communication by the district administration regarding illegal gathering of people at Jawaharbagh and illegal occupation of the same.
