Tension prevailed in Madhya Pradesh’s Ashoknagar district after a farmer in the district, who had come to Bhopal for treatment of his cow injured in an “attack”, was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in the premises of Bhopal’s veterinary hospital.

His body was spotted hanging from a tree on Monday by his nephew Sunil Lodhi, who alleged six people had come from Ashoknagar to threaten his uncle at the veterinary hospital to withdraw the case. The family members of the victim are alleging that the cow was shot at, while police says the cow was injured by a stone thrown by one Akhtar.

The deceased has been identified as 30-year-old farmer Ghanshyam Lodhi, who hailed from Silawan village of Ashoknagar district, 190 kms from Bhopal.

Sunil alleged that six people dragged his uncle out of the veterinary hospital on Sunday night.

Tension erupted in Ashok Nagar following the incident, prompting the police to use mild force to disperse the agitated crowd. Santosh Singh Gour, superintendent of police (SP) Ashoknagar told HT, “The stone however hit Ghanshyam Lodhi’s cow as the dog ran away swiftly. The front left leg of the cow was injured. Ghanshyam filed a complaint and we arrested Akhtar the same day (April 27)...he was in jail for three days and got bail on April 30”, he said
