Shami looks to get into groove ahead of big test
man Mohammed Shami is eager to let his deliveries do magic in English conditions when he plays for India at next month’s Champions Trophy in England.
The right-arm paceman, who will be playing ODI cricket after a gap of two years, is using the remaining IPL matches with Delhi Daredevils to warm up.
“For me the remaining matches in IPL-10 are a big training opportunity ahead of the Champions Trophy,” said Shami.
Watching others in action while sitting at home due to injury hurt the speedster. He says that playing IPL matches gave a big boost to his confidence. “It always hurts when you sit at home and watch others play. But at the same time, it keeps you determined. I never lost my focus and kept thinking about game.”
Expressing happiness on his comeback to Team India, Shami said the Virat Kohliled side was confident enough to defend the title. “We are capable enough to defend the title as we have been doing well consistently.
“We have been playing well as a unit and have a good record in England. We won the ODI series in England last time (in 2014), and I believe the side would continue its good run.” GOOD FINISH Even after being out of contention in IPL, Gujarat Lions captain Suresh Raina wants his team to finish well by winning the remaining two games.
“Injuries to key players pulled us down, but it doesn’t mean that we are short of confidence. It’s always bad to lose key players. However, we are still a good side and would like to win both our matches here.” Raina, who is the highest rungetter in IPL history, says he always gets great support from everyone while playing on his home ground. “It is always a great feeling while playing in front of the home crowd. Playing on this ground is a matter of pride as this is one of the oldest grounds in the world.”
