Record score on offer, says Green Park curator

When Suresh Raina-led Gujarat Lions take on Zaheer Khan-led Delhi Daredevils in an insignificant match of the Indian Premier League at the Green Park Stadium here on Wednesday a record-breaking score may be a possibility.

The main 22-yard strip at this traditional cricket venue has been crafted in such a manner where the fans will have full entertainment of their money with batsmen hitting big sixes and fours all-round the rope.

There is a slight cover of grass at the pitch as they are for the binding of the surface and not to let the batsmen worry of uneven bounce or unusual quicks. The 71-yard boundary (in all four sides) would give equal opportunity to all batsmen, who need to be careful with the turn of the ball on this slow surface.

The two teams have already witnessed the highest scoring game so far in the IPL-10 when Delhi Daredevils had sevenwicket win against Gujarat Lions at the Ferozshah Kotla in New Delhi after chasing 214 for three in 17.3 overs.

“It’s a game of entertainment too and that’s the only thing left for the two sides now. I have prepared such a surface where batsmen must enjoy the batting and entertain the fans,” curator Shiv Kumar told HT on Tuesday.

“There is a possibility of breaking this season’s record of highest scoring in a game, and both Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils too would enjoy this as nothing is left for the two sides after missing out the play-off race.”
