The stage is set for the seventh edition of HT Woman Award 2017 to be held at Vivanta by Taj in Lucknow on Sunday.

As this year’s event unfolds, invitees will get to hear first-hand, heartwrenching accounts of child sexual abuse from the survivors and their kin. Among the distinguished audience will be UP minister of health Siddharthnath Singh, who will be the chief guest, and MP and Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari. The duo will have an interactive session to chalk out a way forward to curb the menace.

The event will mark the culmination of the 10-daylong concerted campaign undertaken by Hindustan Times across various platforms to highlight the malaise that plagues the society. The crusade was peppered with some animated and thought-provoking panel discussions with school principals and experts drawn from different fields.

HT has also compiled the suggestions put forth by the experts and they will be handed over to chief minister Yogi Adityanath and government officials for future course of action. The tone of the event on Sunday will be set by a musical and cultural performance by prominent artistes, including Malavika Hariom and children of Prayaas, which is a second-shift school being run under the aegis of Modern Academy, Gomti Nagar for the underprivileged slum children. The function will conclude with award distribution by Siddharthnath Singh and Manoj Tiwari.

In the past HT successfully carried out campaigns against acid attack and girl child trafficking. Following HT’s campaigns, the state government took a number of steps, including free medical treatment for acid attack survivors in government hospitals.
