NEW EXCISE POLICY ON THE ANVIL, SAYS UP CM

- HT Correspondent letters@hindustantimes.com

GORAKHPUR : Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said the state government was considering to prepare a new excise policy to check frequent disputes related to the sale of liquor. The CM, who was on a two-day visit to Gorakhpur, made the announcement while chairing a meeting with party MLAs and MPs at the circuit house here.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will attend a ‘Hindu Vijayotsav’ or Hindu victory celebrations in Lucknow on Sunday.

The function is being organised by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), an RSS affiliate, in memory of Raja Suhel Dev from Bahraich. Suhel Dev, some historians maintain, stopped Muslim invaders like Salar Masood from converting Hindu leaders defeated by them to the Muslim faith.

Earlier this week, Yogi Adityanath had described Mughal emperors Akbar, Aurangzeb and Babur as ‘invaders’.

He had gone on to praise Hindu warrior king Maharana Pratap who had taken on Akbar.

A few days ago, the CM had also said there was no need to fear organisations like the ISI or ISIS for ‘our country has no dearth of brave people’. Besides Maharana Pratap, he had described Sikh Guru Gobind Singh as brave men.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh had said a few days back that while ‘Akbar was hailed as great’ the same respect was not accorded to Maharana Pratap.’

The RSS is of the view that Indian history hasn’t been correctly recorded and that there was a need to write history in the right perspective.
