Fire breaks out in city school but no one hurt

-

LUCKNOW: Fire in the basement of Central Academy School building in Indira Nagar here on Saturday morning caused panic among students.

However, the arrival of fire tenders in a short span of time and quick response of the fire service personnel averted a major incident.

Chief fire officer (CFO), AB Pandey said the fire broke out in the building’s basement at around 11 am.

He said the fire was caused in an electrical unit due to overheating. The unit was adjacent to the only staircase leading to the basement.

He further said the panic was caused as several students were present in the computer lab and library located in the basement and the staircase was blocked due to the flames.

Students were stuck in the basement for a few minutes until the fire tenders along with a group of fire fighters rushed to the spot after being informed about the emergency.

Pandey said the fire fighters responded swiftly and managed to douse the flames in time.

The fire personnel also helped students come out of the basement. He said the entire rescue operation lasted for around an hour.

He said the fire services team will further probe about the reason behind overheating caused in the electrical unit and arrangements of fire prevention and safety made by the school administration.

The school authorities, however, stated that there was no panic and children were taken out safely when the fire broke out.

CHIEF FIRE OFFICER SAID THE FIRE WAS CAUSED IN AN ELECTRICAL UNIT DUE TO OVERHEATING.
