Yogi exhorts party leaders to gear up for civic polls, help people
MESSAGE
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said the state government was considering to prepare a new excise policy to check frequent disputes related to the sale of liquor.
The CM, who was on a two-day visit to Gorakhpur, made the announcement while chairing a meeting with party MLAs and MPs at the circuit house here.
The announcement by the CM came barely 48 hours after local BJP MLA Radha Mohan Das Agarwal, who allegedly berated woman IPS officer Charu Nigam on May 7, met the chief minister in Lucknow and handed over a memorandum, demanding a crackdown on all unlicensed liquor shops in Gorakhpur. Agarwal had collected memorandums from people who supported his sit-in against the sale of liquor.
Exhorting party leaders to gear up for the upcoming civic elections, the CM asked the public representatives to stand by the people in their time of need and redress their grievances on priority.
He instructed the officials to ensure that missing names were included in the voter list. The CM, who performed special puja at Gorakhnath temple in the morning, asked party workers to make people aware of the government-run welfare schemes on completion of three years of the BJP government at the Centre on May 26.
He said a series of programmes will be organised across the state on May 26 and he will be present in Gorakhpur to mark the occasion.
Stressing on the need to popularise yoga, the CM said the International Day of Yoga on June 21 will be observed across the state and every one must participate in it for a healthy mind and body.
As mentioned in the BJP’s sankalp patra (manifesto), the chief minister reiterated that anti-land mafia task force will be set up to ensure that government land is freed from the possession of land sharks.
Earlier in the day, the chief minister met the family of Chandra Tebriwal, the trader who was shot dead two days ago by unidentified assailants in Sahabganj locality. The CM directed the officials to crack the murder case at the earliest.

Independent MLA Aman Mani Tripathi, who is accused of murdering his wife Sara Singh, also met the chief minister at the circuit house .On the question of his possible induction in the BJP, he said: “Yogi is like my guardian and I will join the BJP if he asks me to do so.”
