PGI faculty forum voices concern
LUCKNOW: The faculty forum of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) general body has expressed concern over the recent reappointment of two faculty members. The forum met on May 5 when a discussion on the subject took place.
“The faculty members were disappointed with the superannuation and reappointment of these two professors. This has negated their hopes of any promotion,” said president of the forum Prof Ashok Gupta who chaired the meeting.
The faculty forum asserted that SGPGI does not have a uniform policy for re-employment. They said this was reflected in the office orders of these two faculty members that showed “gross disparity”.
Re-employment of government servants after superannuation is recommended only in exceptional cases, particularly, to meet shortage of experienced and competent staff and if replacement from existing cadres is not an option. However, in this case that was not the reason, said members of the forum.
The faculty forum observed that proposals for re-employment, where special reasons exist, have to be sent with detailed justification to the statutory body, in this case the SGPGI governing body, and then to the cabinet secretariat at least three months in advance. The ministry of finance also recommends that the re-employed persons should be allowed to avail the prescribed scale.
In the past too, a professor was reappointed at the department of genetics on the grounds that there was nobody to look after the designated work after her superannuation. However, the faculty member concerned, ended up there for over 20 additional years and no one new was trained to carry forward the work.
