FIR against 2 KGMU docs on kidney theft charge
LUCKNOW: An FIR has been lodged against two doctors of the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) and another government doctor in Barabanki following a complaint by a Barabanki youth alleging that one of his kidneys was taken out during treatment in 2015.
“Dr S Tiwari and Dr A Mishra have been named in the FIR lodged under Section 420 of the IPC and Sections 18, 19 and 20 of the Organ Transplant Act,” said inspector Kotwali, Barabanki, SP Singh.
Prithviraj, 23 a resident of Purebhawani village in Kothi area of Barabanki, claimed that he had visited the district hospital in February 2015 with the complaint of stomach ache from where he was referred to the KGMU.
According to KGMU spokesperson Prof NS Verma, the case was of a road accident injury and the patient had come with perforation in the intestine.
“In such cases, removing kidney is not possible first because there is blood inside the body and an infected organ cannot be taken out,” he said.
The KGMU authorities say there could be two possibilities. The first is a congenital deformity of having single kidney and second there could be an injury to one kidney during the accident which was ignored then and it shrunk gradually and now it can’t be seen in the ultrasound. A four-member committee was formed on Saturday to probe the matter.
VIDEO OF EX-KGMU DOC GOES VIRAL
The video of a former KGMU faculty member has gone viral claiming that the doctor was doing private practice.
The faculty shown in the video has now joined a cancer institute. KGMU spokesperson NS Verma said first it had to be ascertained whether the video was shot when the doctor was in the KGMU.
Secondly, as the video does not shows any transaction of money it will also be ascertained whether the doctor was simply offering consultancy or doing private practice.
