Improve electricity supply, reduce line losses: New PCL chief
appointed additional chief secretary, energy and UP Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) chairman Alok Kumar has asked the officials to come to him with an action plan dealing with the demand-supply gap in view of the state government’s decision to provide 24X7 electricity to people from May next year.
He held a meeting with UPPCL directors and others at Shakti Bhawan immediately after taking charge here on Saturday after-noon, replacing Sanjay Agrawal.
Kumar asked director corporate planning to take steps to remove distribution bottlenecks like overloading, that often did not allow electricity to reach the consumer despite there being no shortage of power.
Asking officials to accord top priority to the state government’s agenda, Kumar said he would not tolerate any laxity in work.
He said 100% feeder metering and making related data available online besides installing meters on the premises of all non-metered consumers be taken up as a mission.
He asked all the directors to prepare a detailed action plan with regard to their departments within a week. UPPCL MD, Vishal Chauhan presented a brief outline on the department’s schemes and projects, at the meeting.
Alok Kumar has a wide experience of working in the power sector as joint secretary, and director power, the Central government, as secretary, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, and MD, Utpadan Nigam, UP. He has also authored a book, ‘Electricity sector in India: Policy and Regulation’.
A 1988 batch officer, Kumar was given a silver census medal by the President in recognition of outstanding zeal and high quality of services rendered as DM, Varanasi, during Census, 2001.
