LUCKNOW: The probe into the mysterious death of 2007-batch Karnataka cadre IAS gained pace on Wednesday with CBI sleuths examining the spot where Anurag Tewari was found lying dead on road near state guest house on Meera Bai Marg on May 17.

The team also examined the room number 19 of the state guest house in which he along with his UP cadre batchmate Prabhu Narain Singh was staying for the past three days before his death. They also quizzed the police personnel, who first visited the spot and took the IAS officer to the civil hospital.

The CBI sleuths are probing the case into different segments by making four teams. A source said the first team is trying to establish the sequence of events while one team will go to Bengaluru along with the IAS officer’s elder brother Mayank Tiwari on Thursday afternoon.

The third team will record the statements of people summoned on Thursday. The CBI has called nearly ten people, including five, who signed the ‘Panchatnama’ (police document filled after examining the body before sending it to post-mortem examination) filled by local police while sending the IAS officer’s body for post-mortem examination. Five others are police personnel, who first reached the spot and filled the ‘panchayatnama’.

The deceased IAS officer’s batchmate Prabhu Narain Singh, who is presently posted as vice chairman of Lucknow Development Authority, is also likely to be quizzed on Thursday.

The IAS officer’s brother Mayank Tewari also handed over some documents related to the alleged multi-crore scam in food and civil supplies department of Bengaluru where the deceased was posted.
