Govt mulls merger of secondary, higher edu service panels
ALLAHABAD: The Uttar Pradesh government is mulling the merger of UP Secondary Education Service Selection Board (UPSESSB) and UP Higher Education Services Commission (UPHESC) for transparency in recruitment of teachers.
“The government is looking into the possibility of the formation of a new body — UP Education Service Commission — for recruitment of teachers,” said a senior official at education department.
The change is aimed at ensuring transparency in recruitment process of teachers while saving the government from unnecessary delays and litigations.
“A detailed proposal is being prepared in the government considering the feasibility of setting up the new proposed body through an ordinance,” he said.
Deputy chief minister and state minister for secondary and higher education Dinesh Sharma said the proposal came up during a meeting with teacher MLCs and teachers from universities, colleges and schools.
He said no decision had been taken on the issue as yet but the government was looking into the feasibility of the merger.
The government plans to transfer all assets as well as the staff of the two bodies while protecting their service and seniority.
Set up in 1982, UPSESSB conducts recruitment of trained graduates, lecturers and principals for government-aided secondary schools. UPHESC, set up in 1980, conducts recruitment of lecturers and principals for government-aided graduate and post-graduate colleges in the state.
In the past, both the bodies have faced charges of anomalies in recruitments carried out by them. This is believed to be the reason behind the government’s decision to go for a new body.
Sources said the new commission would have one chairman and 15-16 members with fixed tenures that would be defined in detail in the ordinance.
